{"id":63,"date":"2022-01-06T12:32:33","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T12:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elfogonero.com\/blog_new\/?p=63"},"modified":"2022-02-16T17:43:05","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T17:43:05","slug":"precautions-to-be-taken-while-using-charcoal-grills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elfogonero.com\/blog\/precautions-to-be-taken-while-using-charcoal-grills\/","title":{"rendered":"Precautions to be Taken while using Charcoal Grills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Before Starting to Barbecue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">1) Test for Leaks<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Check that all control knobs are off.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Place the barbecue in a properly ventilated area.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Connect the gas supply to the barbecue and check for leaks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Slowly open the propane cylinder valve and apply a soap\/water solution to all connections.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Check for expanding bubbles, to indicate a leak.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Repair all leaks before lighting the barbecue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Replace Worn and Rusted Parts<\/li>\n<li>Check for Insect Nests\n<ul>\n<li>Fires can result from the venturi tubes under the burners becoming clogged with insect nests and spider webs.<\/li>\n<li>Use a flexible brush to clean out the metal tubes and check the manual for further cleaning instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check for blockages and Clean Everything Thoroughly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>While Barbecuing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lighting Carefully\n<ul>\n<li>Follow the manufacturer\u2019s instructions for lighting the barbecue.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that the barbecue is on level ground, away from windows and flammable things.<\/li>\n<li>Open the lid before turning on the fuel.<\/li>\n<li>Check that the gas valve on the barbecue is shut off.<\/li>\n<li>Open the valve on the propane tank fully.<\/li>\n<li>Light the match or start the igniter.<\/li>\n<li>Never use any flammable liquid other than barbecue starter fluid to start a charcoal barbecue; use the starter fluid sparingly and never on an open flame.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on the gas valve on the barbecue.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the color of the flame is blue with a small yellow tip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Always Be Outside\n<ul>\n<li>Barbecues meant for the outdoors so make sure your barbecue is at least 3 ft. away from your house.<\/li>\n<li>Charcoal grills should not be used inside homes, vehicles, tents, or campers, even if ventilation is provided.<\/li>\n<li>When the barbecue is not in use, keep it covered and in a shaded area.<\/li>\n<li>Do not store propane cylinders indoors; and do not store a spare cylinder under the barbecue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Never Leave a Barbecue Unattended &#8211; This can be a safety hazard as flames can start a dangerous fire.<\/li>\n<li>Keep Kids at a Safe Distance &#8211; Barbecue surfaces can be extremely hot and cause severe burns.<\/li>\n<li>Use a Thermometer to safely check if the food is cooked as desired.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>After the Barbecue<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Shutting Down\n<ul>\n<li>Shut the propane cylinder valve off first to let all propane\/natural gas clear from the lines.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure to shut off the gas valve on the barbecue once the flames have extinguished.<\/li>\n<li>Always close the lid to protect the barbecue from damage and rain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Removing Charcoal Ashes\n<ul>\n<li>Remove charcoal ashes from the grill into a metal container with a tight-fitting metal lid. Add water to the ashes and set aside for several days, before disposing.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the ashes only after they are completely cooled.<\/li>\n<li>Always soak coals with water after cooking; they retain their heat for long periods of time.<\/li>\n<li>Keep damp or wet coals in a well-ventilated area. Spontaneous combustion can occur in confined areas, during the drying process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Transporting the Propane Cylinder\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure all valves are closed, that the propane cylinder is in an upright position.<\/li>\n<li>Always secure the propane cylinder in the vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>Do not leave the propane cylinder in your car for prolonged periods of time.
